My Opinion
Introduction, reference, summary - I use this book for all those purposes. It helped me a lot in a proseminar about AI (see my short robotics intro). I'm also using this book for my job at the Knowledge Based Systems Group where I'm working on the RoboCup team. It describes all what I needed up to know.
The structure of the book is pretty good and is almost the same as in an AI introductory lecture I attended.
This book is an up-to-date overview (of course the science field of AI is rapidly changing these days, but if you need a book now this is it).
